Calvary Chapel Southbury's Community Growth Groups

“so they continued daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking of bread from house to house….”  - Acts 2:46

Spiritual growth flourishes in small group gatherings. A warm group environment provides a place where people can:

• Study the Word of God together
• Pray and care for each other
• Discuss the issues and challenges of their individual lives
• Grow closer to their brothers and sisters in the Body
• Be missed if they do not show up
• Encourage and welcome non-Christians into the arms of fellowship
• Engage in meaningful and relevant spiritual discussions

What are Community Growth Groups?

• They are informal gatherings of people in different places on their journey with Jesus
• They are semester based groups that have beginning and ending dates. They run from 6 to 8 weeks per semester.
• They are a commitment. We ask all who join a group to commit to attendance at that group for the semester. We understand that there may be unavoidable absences, but faithful attendance to the best of your ability is important. We will provide the resources and books; all we ask is that you be part of the group. 
• They are places to have fun and grow spiritually.

The purpose of Community Growth Groups:

Community Growth Groups provide an environment where people can grow spiritually and become fully mature followers of Jesus.

Our desire at Calvary Southbury is to see people cast off ordinary living for the extraordinary life that is available to us in Jesus Christ. Our calling is to simply provide the environment and means through which close fellowship (and the fruit of such fellowship) can flourish.

The goals of Community Growth Groups:

Community Growth Groups help us to experience extraordinary living through:

• Fellowship
• Discipleship
• Ministry opportunities
• Evangelism
• Breaking of bread
• Raising up of leaders

These activities will simply be the natural by-products of the Community Growth Groups.

Fellowship: A group of 10 to 14 people being set apart together by meeting in a home will naturally enjoy closer and more meaningful fellowship than they do just chatting briefly after church on Sunday

Discipleship: With group questions and the Bible as the basis of study, people will be continually challenged to grow spiritually.

Ministry opportunities: These will abound in the small group environment.  They include hosting a group, leading a group, helping to organize, to inviting new people in.  Out of the needs of the group, practical ministry opportunities will arise naturally. There will also be a time for the whole group to serve at the church once a semester on a project.

Evangelism: Spreading the Word is the responsibility of every follower of Jesus.  Community Growth Groups will provide a non-threatening environment where family and friends can be invited to join in teaching and discussion about Jesus, no matter what their background; and can enjoy a time of community with others. We want to make these groups welcoming to all and provide an atmosphere of warmth where inviting others is a natural and sought-after outcome.

Breaking of bread: What better way to grow closer and tear down walls than to share simple food and drink together? Whether it is coffee and dessert or simple snacks and appetizers, when people eat and drink together, a natural bond occurs and fellowship is deepened.
